Derrell Sexton  Gilliam

Derrell went to be home with Patsy Watkins in the everlasting presence of the Lord February 2, 2014.

Derrell was born July 21, 1938 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Charlie & Ruth Gilliam, the middle of 3 boys. Derrell is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Patsy Lou Watkins, his parents, and his eldest brother Charles Gilliam.

Derrell graduated from the Chickasha High School in 1956, and was a member of the Chickasha Alumni.

Both Derrell & Patsy believed in helping others less fortunate. Separate, they were forces to be reckoned with, combined, Unstoppable.

Derrell was a "Golden Gloves Featherweight" champion in the 1950's, served his Country in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Weaponsman aboard the USS Ranger CV/CVA-61, worked hours well into the night arising before the break of dawn using his skills to recondition pianos; one of his many passions. He had a faultless record as an "Accident Free" Driver for Lee Way, Transcon, and McLean Trucking for over 20 years.

One of Derrell's proudest accomplishments was that in the 1990's he was requested to be "Transportation Director" for Steinway Hall-Dallas personally transporting Van Cliburn's 9' Steinway Concert Grand. A task he thoroughly took pride in.

Derrell is survived by two children, Darla Gilliam & Paul Gilliam, grandchildren Chris & Amber Terry, Carla Dawn & Matthew Wolfgram, Callie Haynes, Kassidy Bell, Kayla Schornick, great grandchildren, Nicklas, Maddie, Shelby, and Avery, all from Bridge Creek. One brother Mike & Wanda Gilliam from Edmond, and Uncle Billy from Newcastle, Oklahoma, and many beloved cousins.

A Celebration of Derrell & Patsy being reunited will be held 3:00pm, Saturday, February 15th at the First United Methodist Church, 1101 N. Main St. (10th & N. Main,) Blanchard, OK 73010.
